1.2 Halakha - A Definition PDF Print E-mail

Halakha, halakhah, halacha, or halachah, literally means "the way of walking." Specifically its the description of how we walk with HaShem. The Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth, declared "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one can come to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) This emphatic statement means that Yeshua alone is who we must go through in order to have access to the Father. Furthermore, Yeshua is the goal our walk toward HaShem will ultimately look like. Therefore to walk with HaShem in the "Way" is to imitate Yeshua as he lived and as he continues to live in and through us. If we accept Yeshua as the Messiah, then as his disciples, our life is to be in imitation of him. Yeshua himself said, "A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher." (Luke 6:40) The concept of discipleship is a distinctly Jewish one, and this section on halakha will help detail what that discipleship looks like.
